Ronaldo might not be scoring much in the league, but he sure is banging them in the Champions League, his two against APOEL Nicosia on Tuesday taking him to eight in the competition this year. Before that though Benzema also scored twice and Modric and Nacho were on target as well to take Zidane’s side through to the knock-out stages once again. Sevilla meanwhile produced one of the epic comebacks of the season, the Andalusians recovering from three down to draw 3-3 against Liverpool. Ben Yedder scored twice after the break (including a penalty), and Pizarro got a dramatic equaliser in injury time. On Wednesday Barcelona made sure of top spot in their group with a 0-0 draw at Juventus, and Atlético Madrid kept their slim hopes of qualifying alive with a 2-0 win against Roma, Griezmann and Gameiro getting the goals after the restart. Good results for Spanish teams in Thursday’s Europa League ties as well, Villarreal in particular making sure of top spot in their group with a 2-3 win at Astana. Debutant Dani Raba got the first, and Bakambu came on to score two more after the break. A last minute strike by Oyarzabal at Rosenborg took Real Sociedad in to the knockout stage as well, and Athletic Bilbao are just a point away from qualifying after they came back twice to beat Hertha Berlin 3-2, Aduríz converting two penalties and Williams firing home the winner late on.

The top two teams met on Sunday, leaders Barcelona staying four points clear of hosts Valencia after a 1-1 draw. Rodrigo put the Ches in front, but Jordi Alba equalised late on. Atlético are up to third after they thrashed Levante 0-5, Gameiro and Griezmann confirming their return to form with a brace each. Real Madrid drop below them on goal difference despite a 3-2 victory over Málaga, Ronaldo finally winning it for Zidane’s side on the follow up after his penalty was saved. Sevilla stay fifth after they came back from two down to win 2-3 at Villarreal, strikes by Bakambu and Bacca not enough to prevent defeat for the locals, Real Sociedad are still seventh after a 2-2 draw against Las Palmas, Willian José one of the scorers there, and Celta are now just a point below the Basque side after they beat Leganés 1-0 on Friday, Iago Aspas getting the only goal from the penalty spot.
