Barcelona are already sure of a place in the knock-out stage of the Champions League after a 1-1 draw at Inter Milan on Tuesday, Malcom scoring his first goal for the club to see them through. Atlético are also well placed after they beat Borussia Dortmund 2-0, Saúl and Griezmann the scorers to help forget the 4-0 drubbing from two weeks ago, and Valencia finally got their first CL win on Wednesday, Santi Mina scoring twice in a 3-1 victory over Young Boys. And Real Madrid confirmed their recovery under caretaker coach Santi Solari with a 0-5 win at Viktoria Plzen, Benzema netting twice and Bale also on the scoresheet. On Thursday Sevilla clocked up a late 2-3 victory at Akhisar in the Europa League thanks to a Banega penalty, and Betis and Villarreal drew their respective ties with AC Milan (1-1) and Rapid Vienna (0-0), Lo Celso getting the goal for the Beticos.

Messi missed Barça’s match in Milan, but he was back at the weekend for the game against Betis. However despite scoring twice he couldn’t prevent a 3-4 defeat against the Andalusians (Lo Celso again one of the scorers for them), throwing the league wide open again. Three teams are just a point behind the Catalans including Sevilla, who came from behind to beat Espanyol 2-1, Ben Yedder getting a late winner after Borja Iglesias had given the visitors a first half lead. Atlético are third after they too won 3-2 late on against Athletic Bilbao, two goals from Williams for the Basque side in vain, and Alavés are fourth after beating Huesca 2-1, Rubén Sobrino scoring the winner there. Real Madrid are back in the running as well though after beating Celta 2-4, Benzema starting things off and Sergio Ramos converting his fifth penalty of the season to take his side up to sixth, and elsewhere Raúl De Tomás (known as R.D.T.) also scored as Rayo Vallecano drew 2-2 with Villarreal.
