Barcelona made it through to the semi-finals of the Champions League after beating Manchester United in both legs of their quarter final. Luke Shaw put through his own net in the first, and Messi scored twice before Coutinho wrapped things up a week later. The Catalans will face another Premier League side, Liverpool, in the next round. Spain will also have one team in the Europa League semi-finals, Valencia knocking out neighbours Villarreal in their fratricidal meeting. The Ches won the first leg 1-3, Guedes scoring twice and Wass getting one in between, with Cazorla replying for the hosts from the penalty spot. And in the return game, Lato and Parejo scored in a 2-0 victory to set up a semi with Arsenal.

With the league almost won, Barça rested most of their key players for the week 32 game at Huesca, but most returned the following week to beat Real Sociedad 2-1. Atlético are the only side who have any hope of catching them, and they won twice, Griezmann and Morata scoring in the first of those against Celta. Real Madrid will probably have to make do with third spot however after more disappointing games, although Benzema is the only shining light for them at the moment, the French striker scoring in each of the last five games, including a hat-trick this weekend against Athletic.
