Villains

Four red cards this weekend, including two in the bad tempered match between relegation rivals Rayo Vallecano and Las Palmas. One was for the Las Palmas masseur Apararicio, not the first he has received in his career, and given his lack of control one wonders what sort of service he gives at the Canary Island club. Angel was given a straight red card in that match for a hard tackle on Peragón, and Vinny Samways was lucky to stay on the field after his attack on Pablo Sanz. Celta's Karpin also got a straight red for his blow from behind on Sergi, although the Barcelona captain should have been booked himself for an earlier tackle on the Russian. Karpin's ironic applause as he walked off the Nou Camp did not do him any favours. The fourth red card of the weekend went to Valladolid young defender Mario, who picked up a second yellow card at the end of their match at Oasasuna. Fifth yellows and consequently one match suspensions for six players, including well known villains Carboni and Amor, as well as Orbaiz (Bilbao), Fredi and Olivera (Sevilla) and Lussenhoff (Tenerife). Finally news just coming to press is that Rivaldo will not be suspended after all for his punch at Lacruz a couple of weeks ago. (10.12.01)
