Only one yellow card this
weekend as things calmed down, Edu Alonso from Las Palmas getting his marching
orders for a second bookable offence near the end of the game at Real Sociedad.
Serious repercussions though from last week's games, with an investigation
opened into the scenes at the end of the match between Villarreal and Zaragoza.
Toro Acuña could be given a ban of between four and ten games for
retaliating against a hooligan who ran on to the pitch, and Milosevic was
suspended for two games for insulting the referee and punching a press
photographer. Ground closures in the second division, with Nàstic's Nou
Stadi shut for six games and Xerez's Juventud for four. Both clubs appealed and
can play their last couple of games at home pending further investigation.
Six players will miss the
first match of next season after reaching the yellow card threshold, including
Llorens (Alavés) with fifteen cards, Rochemback (Barcelona), Fernando
Sanz (Málaga) and Alfaro (Sevilla) with ten and Cuartero (Zaragoza) with
five. Nobody caught Quique Alverez this week, and he therefore takes our
villains prize this season, with Luccin and Pablo runners up. We would shake
their hands but we might get punched in the face. Tough cookies that lot.

PS. The disciplinary
committee dished out seven match bans to Zaragoza's Toro Acuña and
Lainez relating to the above incidents, and also closed Villarreal's El
Madrigal stadium for two games. Both clubs will appeal. (22.05.02)
