The disciplinary committee
read the riot act to Celta this week after the post-match scenes at Betis. The
fact that referee Pérez Lasa had just allowed a last minute
Joaquín winner to stand when the player was in an offside position was
not taken taken into account, but the referee's report was. Insults by Celta
manager Miguel Angel Lotina and three of his players meant that four more
bookings were handed out, resulting in the suspension of Luccin and Berizzo for
accumulation of yellow cards.
Only two red cards this
weekend, both for visitors Espanyol at Athletic Bilbao. The first was for
manager Ramón Moya, who referee Puentes Leira says insulted him after he
awarded a penalty to the home side. Moya said he would never treat a referee
with disrespect, but Puentes put it in black and white, and although it is his
word against the manager's, the committee usually supports the referee in these
cases. The other red was for Roger, who picked up a second yellow card midway
through the second half. In addition, one player reached the five yellow card
threshold this week, Sevilla's Oscar.
The big controversy though
at the weekend was the suspension of the match between Barcelona and Real
Madrid for fifteen minutes after objects were thrown from the crowd at Luis
Figo as he went to take a corner. The disciplinary committee will decide this
week whether to close the ground down or not. (26.11.02) |
