A quiet start to the new
season, with players still in a holiday mood in the heat of the summer months.
Only two red cards on opening day, both coming in the same match. Villarreal's
new signing Coloccini had the dubious honour of being the first to take an
early bath after an over-zealous referee booked him for a second time. But
before he had time to turn the taps on, Málaga's Valcarce was there to
join him after he too picked up a second booking. Barcelona's Kluivert is third
in our table without playing a minute, his two match ban (reduced from four)
dating back to last season keeping him out of his manager's plans until week
three. And two players who played in the Spanish Supercup, Mallorca's Fernando
Niño and (surprisingly) Real Madrid's Ronaldo, have already picked up
two bookings in the first games. (01.09.03) |
