Villains

This section is rapidly being over-run by Osasuna, and once again they are the team in the news on the second day of the season. The Pamplona based club's defender Izquierdo was the only player to be given a red card in an unusually quiet weekend, getting his marching orders in the second half of the match at Deportivo for a second bookable offence. With Pablo García and Puñal amongst the group of players who picked up their second bookings of the season, there are no less than five of their squad in our table.

Elsewhere the appeals committee got their retaliations in early, reducing Iván De la Peña's two match ban from last week to one and downgrading César Ferrando's red card to a yellow. That meant the Atlético manager's two match suspension was cancelled, allowing him to sit on the bench this weekend. Decisions which probably didn't go down well with the disciplinary committee, who dished out the sentences in the first place, and who would not take kindly to having their rulings overturned on the first day of the season.
