Seven red cards this
weekend, including two for non-players, Albacete manager José
González getting sent off for repeatedly protesting and Sevilla's second
coach Antonio Alvarez also being shown a red card after the game finished for
insulting the referee. The bathroom attendants were probably caught by surprise
at Atlético Madrid when Levante defender Culebras marched back into the
changing rooms after picking up two yellow cards in the first 17 minutes of the
game, and also in Soria, where Numancia forward Tevenet left the field with
only a half hour gone after getting himself sent off for elbowing
Málaga's Juan Rodríguez.
Not so the case at Montjuic
though, where the bath water was probably already piping hot when Getafe keeper
Sánchez Broto was sent off in injury time after giving away a penalty on
Espanyol's Tamudo. Incidentally, he may just be let off after referee
González Vázquez wrongly reported that it was replacement keeper
Aragoneses who had been shown the red card. Elsewhere Betis defender Lembo must
be ruing his missed chance to impress his bosses when he picked up a second
booking in his first game back for some time, and Sevilla's Aitor Ocio can
think himself unlucky after getting a second yellow card for giving away a
dubious penalty only minutes after he had won one for his side at the other
end.
And so on to the week's
suspensions, with another nine players reaching the five card tally and facing
a one match ban this weekend. Real Madrid's Roberto Carlos is the most famous
name amongst a list which also includes Peña and Rubén
(Albacete), Juanito (Betis), Mario Cotelo and Vivar Dorado (Getafe), Manchev
(Levante), Delporte (Osasuna) and Battaglia (Villarreal). (14.02.05)
