Nice to see that Juanfran is back! "The Hairdresser" as is he is known (for that is his other profession) used to be a regular contributor to this section before he went off on his European wanderings, but he proved he has not lost any of his "qualities", lasting just 70 minutes on his debut for Zaragoza before picking up a red card for pushing Deportivo's Juan Rodríguez in the face.

Juanfran was not the only one to get sent off on his debut though, Atlético's Seitaridis not even getting to half time before he got his marching orders for scything down Racing's Felipe Melo from behind. Two other red cards on the opening weekend as well, Celta's Iriney and Levante's Courtois both getting themselves sent off for second bookable offences.

Atlético's new signing Pernía was unable to make his debut, a red card from the last day of last season carrying forward to a one match ban. Melli and Edu from Betis, Sergio Ramos from Real Madrid and Sergio Sánchez from Espanyol all suffered the same fate. Elsewhere Motta (Barcelona) and Pandiani (Espanyol) both got off to a good start, picking up bookings in both of the Spanish Supercup legs and also the opening games of the season. (31.08.06)
