The calm returned this
weekend after last week's record haul of eleven red cards, with only four
produced this week. Some controversy though, with Real Madrid's Sergio Ramos
getting his marching orders after picking up a second booking for a foul on
Atlético's Fernando Torres. Madrid coach Fabio Capello accused the
Spanish striker of exaggerating (surely not!), but had to withdraw his comments
after Torres and his club president protested. There were complaints too from
Athletic Bilbao after left back Casas was shown a straight red card for a foul
on Gudjohnsen early in the game against Barcelona, most observers considering
it only warranted a yellow. Racing's Oriol was also shown a straight red late
in the game against Celta, and the fourth red card was for Nàstic coach
Luis César, who was sent up into the stands for protesting too strongly
that Valencia's first goal was offside. César was later pardoned by the
appeals committee. (03.10.06) |
