The disciplinary committee
handed out a two match ban for Alvaro after his sending off last weekend, but
Motta's red card was put on hold by the CEDD pending investigation. It's just
that nobody believes linesman Rafa Guerrero any more! (see last week's report
for an explanation).
This weekend there were six
more red cards, including one for Getafe coach Bernd Schuster after the fourth
official heard him make disparaging remarks against referee Rodríguez
Santiago (according to the ref's report he was attributed as saying "mira que
ha pitado este maricón!" (look what that pooftah has blown his whistle
for now!)).
The other five red cards
were all for players who have played for Spain (full or youth internationals)
at some point in their career. Real Madrid's Guti got his marching orders for a
foul on Racing's Vitolo (the committee gave him a two match ban), and
Valencia's David Silva was sent off early on in the match at Sevilla for
elbowing Daniel Alves, who had got away with a similar foul on Silva on the
blind side of the referee a few minutes before.
The absence through
suspension of Levante's central defenders Alvaro and Alexis gave on opportunity
to César and Dehú, although they could have done better, the
former getting himself sent off for a foul on Atlético's Fernando Torres
and the latter giving away a penalty.
The other two red cards were
for Mallorca's Varela and for Deportivo's Lopo, both of whom picked up two
yellow cards (the latter getting his second booking for diving in the penalty
area!). Elsewhere Espanyol's Moisés Hurtado was the only player to reach
the five yellow card threshold this week. (21.11.06) |
