Five red cards this weekend,
the first for Athletic Bilbao's Aduríz on Saturday night for a second
bookable offence late in the game against Osasuna. It was the third time the
striker has been sent off this season.
And there were four more
reds on Sunday, all straight. Gimnàstic's César Navas only lasted
five minutes before he got his marching orders after bringing down Real
Madrid's Van Nistelrooy, and Deportivo's Arizmendi had to go shortly before
half time after catching Getafe's Paredes with an elbow. Villarreal substitute
Cani came and went in a flash after a reckless tackle on Real Sociedad's
Garrido, and Celta's Canobbio was also shown a red card late in the game at
Sevilla.
A long list of players
suspended for the next round of games in a fortnight's time, including Deco
(Barcelona), Cannavaro (Real Madrid) and Celestini (Getafe), all of whom picked
up their tenth bookings of the season, and Sarriegui (Athletic), Contra
(Getafe), Varela (Mallorca), David García (Gimnàstic),
Cuéllar and Soldado (Osasuna) and Scaloni (Racing), all of whom were
shown their fifth. (20.03.07)
PS David Navarro received a
heavy sentence for his part in the brawl at the end of the Champions League
match against Inter Milan. The defender has been banned from all competitions
for seven months (later reduced to six on appeal), and will miss the rest of
the season. Marchena was also given a four match suspension, later reduced to
two. (28.03.07) |
