Villains

Five red cards this weekend, starting with two for Real Madrid's Iván Helguera and Mejía. Helguera got his marching orders for a second bookable offence near the end of the controversial match at Racing Santander (see white stick section for more), and Mejía (who only came as substitute on to plug the gap left by the central defender in the back four) was shown a straight red for a hard tackle on Munitis in injury time.

The following day Sevilla's Hinkel was sent for an early bath (typical German - getting the towels down early!) after giving away a penalty on Valencia's David Villa early in the second half of their fixture, and Villarreal's Guille Franco had to leave the field of play for a second bookable offence later on in the match at Getafe. Atlético Madrid coach Javier Aguirre was also shown a red card after picking up two bookings for protesting in the game against Levante.

Seven players will also miss next weekend's round of games after picking up their fifth yellow cards of the season, including Pablo García and Contreras (Celta), Salva (Levante), Oscar Serrano (Racing), Barber (Recreativo), Marchena (Valencia) and Somoza (Villarreal). (17.04.07)
