OK, let's see if we can make
some sense from this! The referees' rebellion meant that Sarriegi and Capdevila
(who were sent off last weekend) took the field in the last match, as did the
twelve players we highlighted in our last report who had completed the five
yellow card cycle. This week things limped along without change, so we now face
an interesting week where, for example, Vitolo (Racing), Garitano (Real
Sociedad) and Aimar (Zaragoza) who should all have been banned but played and
were booked again, should all be banned again but probably won't be.
Understand? We don't!
Anyway, there were actually
three red cards this weekend, including Levante keeper Molina, who was shown a
red card against Osasuna with only five minutes on the clock after handling
outside of the area. Vogel (Betis) and Eller (Atlético) were both sent
off for second bookable offences, and may or may not be banned next week,
depending on whether the offences were described as "unsporting conduct" or
something else. Clear? Not really!
So on to the yellow card
count, and as well as the three mentioned in our opening paragraph, the
following could possibly be banned (or not) depending on how the disciplinary
committee decides to interpret what the referees put in their reports:
Expósito (Athletic), Alexis and Courtois (Levante), Moretti (Valencia)
and César (Zaragoza). OK?
However Sergio (Zaragoza)
probably won't be banned as he had a yellow card ruled out last weekend which
would have been his ninth, and will probably have another ruled out this
weekend which would have been his tenth if the last card hadn't been ruled out
last weekend. Meanwhile Beckham (the man who innocently started all of this
off), was booked for being kicked in what out here we call the "noble parts"
(not sure if that really applies to our David!), and that caution will stand as
it was for protesting. Hands up all of you who are following! Come on, must be
somebody out there...... (22.05.07)
PS As expected, most of the
bookings were ruled out again by the disciplinary committee , and only Vogel,
Molina and Alexis will have to serve out one match bans. |
