Daniel Alves became the
first Sevilla player to be sent off this season in the league after he picked
up a second booking late in the first half at Villarreal, earning himself a two
match ban after also insulting the referee on the way off the park. The
Brazilian fullback already had five yellow cards to his name, and therefore
comes in at the top of our chart this week.
Referees showed four more
red cards this weekend as well, including one for Recreativo's ex Barça
and Monaco midfielder Gerard for a late tackle on Osasuna's Izquierdo. Recre's
doctor was also given a red for insulting the referee at the end of the match,
and his side won! Must be learning bad habits from Víctor Muñoz!
Elsewhere Barcelona's
Zambrotta was sent off for a second bookable offence at Getafe, and Deportivo's
Filipe was shown a straight red for swearing at a player after he had felled
him seconds earlier - now that really is adding insult to injury!
Lots of players will be out
of action when La Liga returns in a fortnight's time after picking up their
fifth cautions of the season. The list includes Bruno (Almería), Javi
Martínez (Athletic), Perea and Seitaridis (Atlético),
Riganò (Levante), Mejía and Regueiro (Murcia), Marchena
(Valencia), and Diogo and Luccin (Zaragoza), both curiously former "Villains"
award winners on this website. (14.11.07) |
