Cup semi-finals midweek,
with one red card for Racing Santander's Oscar Serrano after picking up two
bookings in quick succession near the end of the tie with Getafe. Racing were
knocked out, so Serrano will have to serve out the one match suspension in
their first cup tie next season. A one match ban as well though for his team
mate César Navas, who was reported by the referee after trying to attack
Casquero at the end of the game after the midfielder scored Getafe's equaliser
with a local defender lying injured on the ground.
Six more red cards at the
weekend, with Sevilla's Maresca the clearest of the lot after head-butting
Atlético's Agüero in their bad-tempered match. The Italian
midfielder picked up a four match ban for his attack, which left the striker
with a bloody nose. A two match suspension as well for Osasuna's Javi
García for catching an opponent with a flying elbow in the game against
Osasuna. And Almería's team doctor was also red carded for running on to
the pitch after his team scored a late equaliser shouting "toma, toma, toma!"
(take that!). A bit of decorum, please!
Elsewhere three players were
sent off for second bookable offences, Deportivo's Riki, Recreativo's
Cáceres and Zaragoza's Gabi. They will be joined in the stands next
weekend by six more who completed the five yellow card cycle, Javi
Martínez (Athletic), Josetxo (Osasuna) and Marchena (Valencia) who were
all given their tenth bookings, and Aitor (Recreativo) and Arzu and Fernando
Vega (Betis) who all received their fifth, (25.03.08) |
