Another disappointing night
for Getafe in the midweek Spanish cup final, their frustrations after a 3-1
defeat to Valencia made clear when Celestini was sent off for a hard tackle on
David Silva near the end.
There were another four red
cards at the weekend, three coming in the relegation battle between Zaragoza
and Recreativo. Visiting striker Marco Rubén was the first to go after
picking up two bookings in quick succession close to half time, and Zaragoza
youngster Vicente and defender Ayala followed him after they too were shown two
yellow cards each later on. Sevilla's Adriano was also sent off for insulting
the referee early in the second half of their match against Almería, and
is this was not the first time that has happened, he has been given a two match
ban.
No less than eleven players
will also be suspended next weekend for accumulation of yellow cards, including
César Arzo (Murcia), Oscar Serrano (Racing) and Beto (Recreativo) who
all picked up their tenth bookings, and Iniesta and Milito (Barcelona), Sergio
(Deportivo), Movilla (Murcia), Cannavaro (Real Madrid), Edu Moya (Recreativo),
and Oscar Sánchez and Pedro López (Valladolid), who all picked up
their fifth. And it would have been twelve had Zaragoza defender Sergio not
been let off his fifth yellow card by the disciplinary committee. (22.04.08)
