Villains

Only one red card on the field of play this weekend, and that probably shouldn't have happened. Osasuna keeper Ricardo was the unlucky man, pushing the ball away from under the feet of Valencia's David Villa early on only to find that the referee awarded a penalty and sent him off. See our white stick section for more on that one. Elsewhere there were two red cards for Betis coach Paco Chaparro and his side's physical trainer Del Pozo, both for protesting late on in the game against Villarreal. Chaparro made things worse coming on to the pitch after the final whistle to harangue referee Teixeira Vitienes, and he could be given a bigger ban.

Another twelve players will be suspended next weekend after completing the five yellow card cycle, including Melli (Betis), Héctor (Mallorca) and Gabi (Zaragoza) all of whom picked up their tenth bookings, and Lafita (Deportivo), Valdo (Espanyol), Casquero (Getafe), Javi Fuego (Levante), Abel and De Lucas (Murcia), Juanfran (Osasuna), Quique Alvarez (Recreativo) and Eguren (Villarreal).
