The season has ended for
Levante's Berson after he was given a three match ban by the disciplinary
committee. The French midfielder raised his fist and insulted referee Rubinos
Pérez after he was sent off for a second bookable offence in the match
against Espanyol, something that doesn't go down well with the authorities. His
team mate Alvaro will also miss the next two games after he picked up his tenth
yellow card of the season and was then shown a straight red for giving away a
last minute penalty on Luis García. Espanyol's Torrejón was sent
off as well a few minutes earlier after he too picked up two bookings, although
one of his cautions was cancelled on appeal by the committee.
Three more red cards this
weekend, including Real Madrid's Cannavaro for two yellow cards early in the
second half against Osasuna. It didn't stop Madrid going on to win though and
wrap up the league title for this season. Elsewhere Murcia had two men sent off
in their meeting with Racing, Mejía getting a second booking and Pignol
a straight red in the last ten minutes of the match.
Eleven more players will
miss the midweek round of fixtures for accumulation of yellow cards, including
Bruno (Almería), Raúl García (Atlético), Deco
(Barcelona) and Jarque (Espanyol), all with ten bookings, and Eto'o
(Barcelona), Capi (Betis), Cruchaga (Osasuna), Jorge López (Racing) and
Celades, Sergio and Zapater (Zaragoza), all with five. Real Madrid's Heinze
also picked up his fifth booking, but he was pardoned. (06.05.08)
