Five red cards in the
midweek round of games, including one for Barcelona's Xavi after he picked up
two bookings on a frustrating night against arch-rivals Real Madrid. Valencia's
David Silva and Osasuna's Portillo were both shown straight reds soon after
scoring for their respective sides, the former for insulting the referee and
the latter for a heavy tackle on an opponent. And Racing's Ayoze and
Valladolid's Cifuentes were both given their marching orders for second
bookable offences late on in the matches against Sevilla and Betis.
Atlético's Perea
became the first player to reach the 15 yellow card threshold, and he will sit
out the next round of games together with eleven other players, Carlos
García and Corona (Almería), Márquez (Barcelona),
Torrejón (Espanyol), Licht (Getafe), Javi García (Osasuna),
Heinze and Pepe (Real Madrid), Gerard (Recreativo), Adriano (Sevilla) and Javi
Baraja (Valladolid). (10.05.08) |
