Villains

Five red cards at the weekend, the first for Athletic Bilbao midfielder Susaeta for a second bookable offence against Villarreal. The disciplinary committee overturned one of the yellow cards though, allowing him to play the next match when La Liga returns after the break for international games.

Three other players were sent off the following day after picking up second bookings, including Moreno and Carmelo in the match between Numancia and Sporting. Valencia's Alexis was also given his marching orders later in the evening at Racing. And Betis coach Paco Chaparro was also red carded for his over-the-top protests at Deportivo.

All will be joined on the sidelines in a fortnight's time by fifteen players who picked up their fifth cautions of the current cycle, including Amorebieta (Athletic), Puñal (Osasuna), Serrano (Racing) and Baraja (Valencia) with ten yellow cards, and Bruno (Almería), Juan Rodríguez and Sergio (both Deportivo), Chica (Espanyol), Oriol and Toni Moral (both Racing), Heinze (Real Madrid), Luis Fabiano (Sevilla), Barral (Sporting), Pedro León (Valladolid) and Ibagaza (Villarreal).
