Six red cards at the
weekend, including one for Sevilla full back Adriano for a hard tackle and one
for his coach Manolo Jiménez for protesting in the match against
Valencia. Valladolid's Iñaki Bea felt hard done by to be red-carded and
penalised with a penalty against Villarreal, and Sporting keeper Cuéllar
got his marching orders for handling outside of the area against Betis, even
though he tried to clear the ball with his shoulder. In the same match numbers
were evened up when Arzu picked up a second booking, and Bilbao's Javi
Martínez was also shown a red card at the end of the match with
Deportivo for insulting the referee, although the disciplinary committee
downgraded it to a yellow on appeal.
Ten players will be
suspended for the midweek round of games after completing the five yellow card
cycle, including Orbaiz (Athletic) and Michel (Sporting) with ten bookings, and
Ustaritz (Athletic), Mark González (Betis), Miguel Flaño
(Osasuna), Lacen and Marcano (Racing), Lass (Real Madrid), Palop (Sevilla) and
Miguel (Valencia) with five. (21.04.09) |
