Only four red cards in the
last weekend of the season, with Sevilla's Negredo the first to go on Saturday
evening for making insulting comments about the linesman's mother! It was the
striker's third red card of the season, and his hot temper will cost him a
place in Sevilla's cup final line up (and probably in Vicente Del Bosque's
final World Cup squad?). Rubinos Pérez also produced a red card for
Almería delegate Jorge Díaz, who made an impossible suggestion to
the referee as to where he could stick his whistle! The following day
Málaga's Duda got his marching orders near the end of the game against
Real Madrid for what the referee reported as a head-but on Xabi Alonso, and
Xerez forward Orellana was also sent off at Osasuna for kicking out in the last
minute at Jokín Esparza.
Assuming they are still
playing in La Liga next season they will all be banned for the opening day, as
will another ten players who completed the five yellow card cycle, Mané
(Getafe) and Zokora (Sevilla), who picked up their tenth bookings of the
season, and Víctor Ruíz (Espanyol), Guti (Real Madrid), Squillaci
and Stankevicius (Sevilla), Baraja and Manucho (Valladolid), Ibagaza
(Villarreal) and Jorge López (Zaragoza), all of whom were shown their
fifth. With only the cup final to go that means that Amorebieta is virtually
certain to take our Villains award this season, Atlético's Paulo
Assunçao the only player who could catch him right now. (18.05.10)
PS Negredo's red card was
downgraded to a yellow on appeal, and he was therefore allowed to play in the
cup final. No red cards for players in that match, but there were two for
Sevilla's delegate and medical assistant as handbags flew on the touchline in a
nervous second half. Coaches Antonio Alvarez and Quique Sánchez Flores
had a bit of a go at each other as well, but in the end it was all friends in
the bath. That's it for another season, and Amorebieta is confirmed as our top
villain this year. (19.05.10) |
