The disciplinary committee
are starting to get tough! New regulations mean that any insult to referees
will be treated more harshly than before, and the first consequences were seen
after this weekend's games. Espanyol's Osvaldo was the hardest hit after he was
sent off for catching Mallorca's Crespi with his elbow, his comments to the
referee's face saying "you are a disaster" costing him a two match ban on top
of the one for the red card. Osasuna's Camuñas was also suspended for
two games after he was sent off for calling the referee a "chulo"
(smart-arse?), and there was a similar penalty for Hércules star striker
David Trézéguet for asking "what have you whistled for, you
shitty shitter?" (if Muñiz Fernández's report is true, we can
only marvel at how quickly he has picked up Spanish!). The referee also sent
off Villarreal's Borja Valero and Musacchio later on, the former for a second
bookable offence, and the latter for an elbow on an opponent. Elsewhere
Zaragoza's Pinter got his marching orders after picking up bookings either side
of half time against Athletic Bilbao, and Lopo (Deportivo) and Luis
García (Espanyol) became the third and fourth players to be given a one
match ban after being shown their fifth yellow cards of the season. (21.10.10)
