Only one red card for an outfield player this weekend, Sporting's Eguren getting his marching orders late on for a second booking in the match against Real Madrid. Madrid's assistant coach Rui Farias was also shown a red card though by an officious referee for protesting, and his opposite number at Getafe, Pedro Rostoll, was also sent to the stands for the same reason. Most of the talk this week though was about Barcelona's Piqué, who blatantly forced his fifth yellow card of the season at the end of the midweek game against Rayo so that he could serve out a one match ban against Levante and be free for the key game against Real Madrid next Saturday (Xabi Alonso had done the same last weekend, but far less obviously). Under the new league rules anyone clearly doing so will be given an extra match ban, but as the referee didn't make a special mention in his report, Piqué got what he wanted. Another eight players reached the five yellow card threshold this weekend, including Weiss (Espanyol), Damià and Nekounam (Osasuna), Jordi Figueres and Javi Fuego (Rayo) Adil Rami and Jordi Alba (Valencia), and Musacchio (Villarreal), and all will be absent next week.
