No red cards in the first legs of the cup semi-finals, although there were some controversial moments - see our "White Stick" section for more. Lots to comment on at the weekend though, with five red cards, including one on Monday night for Málaga's Demichelis after a crunching tackle on Granada new boy Henrique. Far be it for us to comment on bad feelings between South Americans, but Henrique must now know what is waiting for him if he makes it to the line up the next time Brazil play Argentina! Demichelis's rash tackle was considered severe enough though to cost him a two match ban. Three players were sent off in the Saturday evening game between Mallorca and Betis, all for second bookable offences later on in the second half. Betis's Mario was the first to go, his third red card of the season, and he was followed down the tunnel by Ramis and Víctor Casadesús. Elsewhere Villarreal left back Joan Oriol was also red carded for a second bookable offence late on in the match at Sevilla, although it came too late to change the winning result for his side. All will be joined on the sidelines next weekend by Paredes (Zaragoza), who picked his tenth booking of the season, and by Ander Herrera (Athletic), Miranda (Atlético), Masilela (Getafe), Yebda (Granada), Xavi Torres (Levante), Martí (Mallorca), Michu (Rayo), Escudé (Sevilla), Víctor Ruíz (Valencia) and Bruno and Gonzalo (both Villarreal),all of whom were shown their fifth. Twelve players in all! (08.02.12)

PS. The appeals committee were in a good mood this week, and they have let Michu, Paredes and Joan Oriol off a yellow card each. All will therefore be available to their managers this weekend.
