Five red cards at the weekend, with Zaragoza's Lanzaro the first two go for a second bookable offence late on in the match at Real Sociedad. It was the Italian defender's third of the season, and he now heads up our "Villains" rankings this year. The fun and games in the fixture between Clemente's Sporting and Michel's Sevilla came after the final whistle however, with five players booked in angry clashes between the two teams. One of the bookings was Coke's second of the match, and his team mate Fazio also picked up his fifth booking of the season at the same time. Both will therefore miss next weekend's game against Barcelona.

On Sunday Granada's new signing Henrique was red carded for a two-footed tackle on an Atlético player near the end of the game, and Valencia's Tino Costa got his marching orders for a similar offence against Mallorca. It seems that the disciplinary committee have got it in for Valencia players this year season, Costa getting a two match ban whereas Henrique only got one.

Elsewhere Osasuna delegate Iñaki Ibáñez was sent up to the stands by a severe Alvarez Izquierdo for "not putting order in the behavior of the ball-boys, and for allowing balls to be thrown on to the pitch from the terraces". Alvarez had earlier asked the poor delegate to make an announcement by megaphone that fans should stop throwing little balls of aluminium paper at the opposing players! What does the referee do for a day job, school headmaster or something?!?

As well as Fazio, another seven players will miss the next round of games after picking up their fifth yellow cards of the season, including Amorebieta and Toquero (Athletic), Raúl Baena (Espanyol), Cata Díaz (Getafe), Miguel Flaño (Osasuna), Lass (Rayo Vallecano) and Mikel González (Real Sociedad). Cata Díaz in particular will miss his first minutes of the season, the only ever-present outfielder to date this year. (14.03.12)

PS Piqué's case was eventually shelved by the disciplinary committee, and no further action will be taken (see last week's "Villains" for details).
