Given that this was the next to last weekend of the season, it was curious that there were no players sent off during playing time in any of the ten matches which kicked off simultaneously on Saturday evening. There were two though after the final whistle in the match between Granada and Real Madrid, Moisés Hurtado and Siqueira both being shown red cards for insulting referee Clos Gómez in some heated exchanges at the end of the game. Both will definitely miss the last match of the season, as probably will Dani Benítez, who was caught throwing a bottle at the referee, and could be facing a ban of up to sixth months as a result! You can read more about that in our "White Stick section". Ten more players will also be starting their summer break early after completing the five yellow card cycle, including Turan (Atlético), Cata Díaz (Getafe), Puñal (Osasuna), Rami (Valencia) and Lanzaro (Zaragoza), who were all given their tenth bookings of the season, and Cristian Gómez (Espanyol), Juan Rodríguez (Getafe), Munúa (Levante), Weligton (Málaga) and De Guzmán (Villarreal), who were all shown their fifth. Some big names out for what is looking like a thrilling end to the campaign! Lanzaro in particular is a case in point though, and he demonstrated once again that he is a few centimos short of the full euro (to paraphrase an old saying) when he took himself out of the finale whilst still on the subs' bench by getting himself booked for running on the pitch to celebrate Zaragoza's first goal.
