Another eight red cards this weekend, matching the season-high total from the last round of games two weeks ago. Three of those came on Saturday, Valladolid's Manucho the first to go for a second bookable offence late on at Málaga. Athletic's Ander Herrera was red-carded later in the evening for a kick from behind on Valencia's Tino Costa, an incident which may have cost his team the match as they were winning at the time and went on to lose 3-2. And Barcelona lost Mascherano to a second yellow card early in the second half of their game at Deportivo, although in their case they held on for a dramatic 4-5 victory. On Sunday Espanyol and Rayo Vallecano were both left with ten men for the last few minutes of their match after Labaka was given a straight red for a foul on Javi López and Colotto picked up a second booking, and later in the day Granada's Iriney was sent for an early bath for a foul on Zaragoza's Apoño. Curiously Granada played better after that, much to the consternation of Zaragoza coach Manolo Jiménez, who got himself sent to the stands late on for protesting. Jiménez and Herrera were both given two match suspensions, and Real Sociedad assistant coach Roberto Troin has been banned for four games for calling referee Ayza Gámez an assassin after his team lost 0-1 to Atlético Madrid. Troin and his boss Montanier were upset that Ayza had not given a penalty earlier on when Gabi handled in the area, and the last minute free kick which Falcao scored from was just too much. OK, the referee didn't kill anyone (as far as we know), but a four match ban seems a bit much. Elsewhere there were one match suspensions too for Ballesteros (Levante) and Damià (Osasuna), both of whom picked up their fifth cautions of the season. (24.10.12)
