Only one red card for a member of the playing staff this weekend, and that was more than dubious. Sevilla's Reyes was the unlucky object of that after he was shown a second yellow card by Muñiz Fernández late in the first half of the Friday night game at Espanyol, supposedly for taking a free kick without the referee's permission. However Muñiz clearly did blow his whistle to allow the kick to go ahead, and although he then turned to discipline a couple of players who were out of line, he never signalled to stop play. Reyes himself was obviously concentrating on taking the kick and not on what the referee was doing elsewhere, and he couldn't believe it when he was asked to take the long walk. Otherwise there was only one other red card for the Getafe doctor for protesting, and he has been given a month long ban from the touchline... presumably for disobeying the Geneva conventions and taking sides? Few cards all round though compared to other weeks, and only Alexis (Getafe) and Javi Fuego (Rayo) reached the five yellow card threshold which means they will be given a one match suspension next weekend. (12.12.12)

PS. As expected, Reyes was let off the second yellow card on appeal, and his one game ban has been cancelled.

(* suspension pending disciplinary meeting decision)
