Only two red cards in the last weekend before the two week winter break, Sevilla's Coke and Atlético's Miranda both getting their marching orders for second bookable offences late on in their respective matches. They will be able to extend their holidays for a few more days (assuming their managers agree!), as will another nine players who completed the five yellow card cycle, Turan and Falcao (Atlético), Augusto Fernández (Celta), Martins (Levante), Víctor Casadesús (Mallorca), Arribas (Osasuna), Pepe and Sergio Ramos (Real Madrid) and Oscar (Valladolid). (24.12.12)

PS. Valladolid's Jesús Rueda was also given a two match ban for threatening behaviour against the match officials, even though he wasn't even in the squad for the game against Barcelona! Referee Clos Gómez reported that Rueda approached him at half time and told him "you whistle everything in favour of Messi, just because he's Messi!", and when asked to move out of the way he said "you move out of the way back to your changing room, I am more in charge here than you are!".

(* suspension pending disciplinary meeting decision)
