Tempers flared in the second leg of the Super Cup at the Nou Camp, with Atlético's Filipe Luis getting sent off for an off-the-ball incident with his Brazilian team mate (and Olympic diver?) Dani Alvés, Arda Turan following him down the tunnel for coming off the substitutes' bench to protest, and the team's physical trainer Ortega also sent for a cold bath for insulting the officials. Filipe and Turan were given a two match ban which will only be served out in the same competition (if and when Atlético qualify in the future), but Ortega was suspended for four matches, which is serious enough for the ban to be applied in the league.

Two more red cards in the Friday night games, Almeria's Dubarbier getting himself sent off for a second bookable offence midway through the second half of the match against Elche, and Rayo Vallecano's Lass having to go for retaliatory kick at Levante's Xumetra on the hour mark. On Sunday Málaga's Duda was red-carded for a last minute tackle on Sevilla's Vitolo, and Real Sociedad's goalkeeping coach Roberto Navajas was also sent to the stands for protesting in the game against Atlético. Lass and Navajas were given two match bans, with one game suspensions for the other two. (05.09.13)
