Two red cards in the cup this week, Valencia’s Dani Parejo and Real Madrid’s Coentrao both getting their marching orders for second bookable offences near the end of their respective ties. Coentrao will sit out the first leg of the quarter final at Espanyol, but Parejo will have to wait for the first cup match next season to serve out his one match ban, as will Rayo’s Gálvez, who picked up his third yellow card of the competition.

Another three players sent off in the weekend league matches, Rayo’s Raúl Baena the first to go after giving away a penalty midway through the first half of the game at Elche. Getafe’s bearded Borja got his marching orders for a second yellow card against Real Sociedad on Sunday lunchtime, and Sevilla’s Alberto Moreno was given a straight red for a lunging tackle on Raúl García near the end of the match at Atlético Madrid later in the day. Appeals by Baena and Moreno were turned down by the disciplinary committee, and they and Borja miss next weekend’s games together with Juanfran (Atlético), Augusto Fernández (Celta), Fran Rico (Granada), Sergio Pinto (Levante) and Adrián González (Rayo), who all picked up their fifth cautions of the season. PS Raúl Baena's suspension has been put on hold pending further investigation by the superior sports committee (CEDD), and he will therefore be available for the game against Atlético Madrid.
