Four red cards in the latest round of games, two in the first match and two in the last. Granada’s Iturra and Getafe’s Escudero were both sent off for second bookable offences in the Friday night game, and Villarreal’s Gabriel got his marching orders for the same reason in Villarreal’s match against Athletic Bilbao on Monday. Villarreal’s doctor Adolfo (call me Adolf) Muñoz was also sent to the stands after he swapped his Hippocratic Oath for a few more down to earth oaths directed at the referee and his officials, and he will probably have to sit out a couple of games as a result.

Elsewhere another eleven players will be suspended next weekend after completing the five yellow card cycle, Elche’s Botía the first by far to reach the 15 card threshold, his team-mate Rubén Pérez and Málaga’s Antunes clocking up their tenth bookings, and Rodri (Almería), Aduríz (Athletic), Tiago (Atlético), Aurtenetxe and Cabral (Celta), Sarabia (Getafe), José Angel (Real Sociedad) and Rukavina (Valladolid) all being given their fifth.
