Did we say things were quite around here? Not any more they’re not! There were no less than seven red cards (or maybe eight?) this weekend, the highest tally of the season by far! There was another straight red for a Málaga player, this time Angeleri being sent for an early bath after a late tackle on Granada’s Isaac Success some twenty minutes from the end of their game on Saturday. It was their fifth sending off in only seven matches, not quite a record but not far off!

Elsewhere Atlético’s Cerci was probably unlucky to get his marching orders for a second bookable offence for what the referee considered to be hands when he controlled the ball with his shoulder / upper arm (?) before scoring what would have been his first goal for the club, and later on Saturday evening Rayo’s Morcillo and Aquino were both sent off for second bookings, leaving them with nine men against Barça. Elche’s Jonathas and Celta’s Fontàs were also red carded in their respective games after picking up two yellows, and there was a red card for the Málaga delegate Sr. Giraldez, according to referee Velasco Carballo’s report “after two balls were thrown on to the pitch from the crowd near the end”! Was that his fault? Maybe the ref saw something we didn’t?

The possible eighth red card referred to above was not reported as such, but Elche’s sporting director Víctor Orta will probably be in hot water after Del Cerro Grande included a comment that he and his linesman were verbally accosted by Orta in the tunnel after the match. He apparently said “you don’t stop coming to our house in the summer, and then you do whatever comes out of your testicles!” Eh? Perhaps something got lost in translation?!? (07.10.14)
