David Moyes signalled his arrival in Spanish football by picking up a yellow card for himself and provoking a red card for one of the opposite number, Deportivo’s physical trainer Roberto Cabellud. Moyes stepped out of the manager’s designated area and on to the pitch to kick the ball back for one of his players to take a quick free kick, a trick which infuriated Cabellud and his manager Víctor Fernández. Moyes (who was caught on camera getting Granero’s name wrong and not knowing who Chory Castro was – understandable after 4 days in the job) tried to calm things down with sign language, but his hand gestures were not understood by the trainer, who went ballistic thinking he had somehow been badly insulted! Welcome to Spain David! Better start memorizing that phrase book!

Elsewhere there were red cards for Samuel (Málaga), Gabi (Atlético – in the same match) and Azeez (Almería), all for second bookable offences. Including managers and staff, Málaga have now been given eight red cards in twelve games, which must be something of a record itself. All will be joined on the sidelines next weekend by Lopo (Deportivo), Camacho (Málaga), Raúl Baena (Rayo) and Coke (Sevilla), who were given one match bans after picking up their fifth bookings of the season.
