The Spanish Cup also counts towards our rankings in the “Villains” section, and there were two red cards for first division players in the midweek fourth round ties, as well as one each for the coaches of Oviedo and Albacete for protesting. Córdoba’s Ekeng was the first to go for a second bookable offence late on in the match at Granada, and Villarreal’s Adrián Marín got his marching orders for a hard tackle on Cádiz’s Kike López with half an hour remaining in the tie. Ekeng misses the second leg, but Marín will have to sit out the next league match as his was a straight red card.

Two more players sent off at the weekend, Sevilla’s Carriço, who picked up a second booking near the end of the Sunday mid-day game at Rayo, and Valencia’s Paco Alcácer, who only lasted four minutes after coming on as a substitute against Granada before he lashed out at Juan Carlos in an off-the-ball incident. Subject to appeals, both will sit out next weekend’s fixtures together with six other players who completed the five yellow card cycle, Pinillos (Córdoba), Hinestroza (Getafe), Foulquier (Granada), Trashorras (Rayo), Sergio Ramos (Real Madrid) and Dani Parejo (Valencia). (10.12.14)

PS Alcácer was given a two match ban, subsequently reduced to one on appeal.
