No less than four players were suspended for the weekend games after picking up their fifth bookings of the season in Wednesday night’s reschedule league match between Real Madrid and Sevilla, Marcelo, Carriço, Vitolo and Aleix Vidal all sitting it out in the stands. No wonder their respective sides lost! Otherwise though it was a fairly quiet week, with only two red cards at the weekend, both coming in the last two games. Athletic’s Etxeita was the first to go for a high tackle on Luis Suárez which took the Barcelona striker out of the contest, and Rayo’s Raúl Baena got his marching orders late on in the Monday night game at Elche for a second bookable offence. Both will sit out next weekend’s fixtures together with another nine players who reached the five yellow card threshold, Trujillo (Almería), Arda Turan and Raúl García (Atlético), Dani Alves (Barcelona), Rossi (Córdoba), Pablo Insúa (Deportivo), Camarasa (Levante), Diogo Figueiras (Sevilla) and André Gomes (Valencia).
