Diego Simeone was in hot water with the referee again on Saturday, the Atlético coach getting his marching orders for... well, failing to shut up after being booked for protesting! Referee Fernández Borbolán give him a first yellow card for complaining about a tackle by Deportivo’s Sidnei on Griezmann shortly before half time in Saturday’s game, and when he continued with his protests it was a second yellow card and goodbye! Don Diego was given an eight match ban earlier in the season for his antics, but this time it should only be a one match suspension. Elsewhere there was only one other red card, Getafe’s Velázquez (actually on loan from Atlético!) seeing red for bringing down Athletic’s Viguera as he advanced on goal just before the break. Whether it was a penalty or not is a question for our “White Stick” section though!

Meanwhile Espanyol’s Víctor Sánchez (winner of our “Villains” award last year) is the first player to complete the five yellow card cycle for the third time this season, and he will miss next Saturday’s game against his old club Barcelona. He will be joined on the sidelines by another eleven players, Almería’s Dubarbier, Deportivo’s Sidnei, Getafe’s Alexis and Rayo’s Tito, who were all given their tenth bookings of the season, and Toché (Deportivo), Aarón Ñíguez, Víctor Rodríguez and Pasalic (all Elche), Rubén Pérez (Granada), .Zaldua (Real Sociedad) and Eric Bailly (Villarreal), who were all shown their fifth.
