Five red cards in the midweek games, and another five players completed the five yellow card cycle, but in actual fact nobody will be suspended at the weekend as the disciplinary committee decided to go on holiday! The last of the day 34 matches ended on Thursday 30 th, and as today, May 1 st, is a public holiday, the gentlemen members of the committee agreed that they will meet next week, after the day 35 games have ended! The players and officials themselves though will have to lump it, especially those of Real Sociedad and Levante, who are scheduled to play tonight. Welcome to Spain!

For the record, four red cards were shown by rookie referee Bikandi Garrido in the Thursday night match between Rayo Vallecano and Valencia, local manager Paco Jémez and visiting goalkeeping coach Ochotorena getting their marching orders for protesting, Morcillo seeing red on the hour mark for a hard tackle on André Gomes, and Rodrigo taking an early bath for a retaliatory kick at keeper Toño, who flattened him behind the referee’s back! Elsewhere Real Sociedad’s Mikel González was sent off after giving away a penalty on Athletic Bilbao’s Aduríz in the Basque derby, the referee ignoring appeals for a previous foul on their keeper. The striker converted the spot-kick, but justice was probably served when David Moyes’ side came back to draw.

The five players who should have been suspended for accumulation of yellow cards are Nolito (Celta), Arruabarrena (Eibar) and Damián Suárez (Elche), all of who picked up their tenth bookings, and Alex López (Celta) and Víctor Casadesús (Levante), who both were shown their fifth. They will presumably have to serve out their bans next weekend, together with those suspended from day 35. (01.05.15)
