Six red cards this weekend, three of those coming in the Monday night match between Almería and Celta. Cabral was the first to go with a straight red card for a foul on Thievy early on in the second half, but numbers were evened up when Mauro Dos Santos picked up a second booking late on. Almería club delegate Jorge Díaz was also sent to the stands for protesting, and he has been given a two match ban. Earlier in the weekend Elche keeper Tyton got his marching orders for giving away a penalty on Málaga’s Javi Guerra, and Athletic Bilbao’s Bustinza and Espanyol’s Cañas were sent off for second bookable offences late on in their respective games.

Another six players will also be banned next weekend after completing the five yellow card cycle, including Godín (Atlético) and Simao (Levante), who both picked up their tenth bookings, and Hugo Mallo and Larrivey (both Celta) and Víctor Ruíz (Villarreal), who were all shown their fifth. As commented in our previous report, they will be joined by the ten players and coaches who were suspended from the midweek round of games, who could not serve out their sentences earlier as the disciplinary committee went on holiday! That for example leaves Celta without five of their first choice players, as Alex López and Nolito were amongst those banned. The committee also dished out three match suspensions for Valencia striker Rodrigo (his for a repeat offence) and Rayo manager Paco Jémez, and a two match ban for Valencia’s goalkeeping coach Ochotorena, who were all shown red cards midweek. In the case of the former two, that effectively ends their season. (06.05.15)
