Three red cards in an otherwise calm last weekend of the season (at least on the bookings front!), Celta keeper Sergio Alvarez the first to go after giving away a penalty on Espanyol’s Sergio García with just over twenty minutes gone. Lucky for him his team were able to hold on for a win anyway! Málaga’s Weligton followed soon afterwards though for bringing down Sevilla’s Gameiro, and Valencia’s Dani Parejo got his marching orders late on for a second bookable offence at Almería, that coming too late to prevent the Ches from a vital win which means they hang on to the last Champions League spot. All three will miss the opening match of next season together with seven players who completed the five yellow card cycle, Lombán (Elche), Recio (Málaga) and Gayà (Valencia), who were all shown their fifth cautions of the season, and Mathieu (Barcelona), Mendujanin (Deportivo), Mikel González (Real Sociedad) and Feghouli (Valencia), who were all given their fifth. All of that means that this year’s “Villains” award goes to Atlético Madrid’s Gabi. Simeone’s captain indeed! (26.05.15)
