Eibar’s Gonzalo Escalante looks en-route to breaking all the records in his first season in Spanish football, the Argentinian midfielder picking up his tenth booking with only a third of the season gone! That earns him a second one-match ban, and he will sit out the next round of games with eleven other players, including Pablo Hernández (Celta), Juan Rodríguez (Getafe), Javi Márquez (Granada), Trashorras (Rayo Vallecano) and Rubén Pardo (Real Sociedad), who all picked up their fifth yellow cards of the current campaign. On Friday evening there were red cards for two players, Betis defender Westermann, who picked up two cautions, and Levante’s Juanfran, our old friend getting his marching orders for protesting from the substitute’s bench. The following day Málaga’s Tissone was sent off for the second time this season after picking up two yellow cards against Granada, and on Sunday Athletic’s Laporte was sent for an early bath after bringing down Rayo’s Manucho as he advanced on goal. And later in the evening Valencia were left with nine men against Sevilla after Cancelo and then Javi Fuego were both shown two yellows. All will miss the week fourteen games next weekend. PS Westermann was let off one of his bookings by the appeals committee, and his suspension has therefore been revoked. Juanfran though was given a two match ban. (02.12.15)
