No red cards in the midweek cup matches, although Culio (Las Palmas) and Lazaro (Mirandés) both picked up their third bookings of the competition, and will therefore have to miss the first cup game next season, wherever they may be (hope their bosses realize that, ref. Cheryshev!). Four players sent off at the weekend though, including of course those two Atlético defenders in the Nou Camp on Saturday, Filipe Luis for a crunching tackle on Messi’s knee just before the break, and Godín for two fouls on his Uruguayan team-mate Luis Suárez, the second coming midway through the second half. Elsewhere Getafe’s Cala got his marching orders for a second bookable offence near the end of the game against Athletic, and on Sunday Celta’s Orellana also took the long walk after picking up a second caution for diving in the area at Las Palmas. The midfielder made matters worse by telling the referee he was very bad, and as a result he will have to serve out a three match ban, as will Filipe Luis for that dangerous kick on Messi. Atlético’s defence will be decimated for next week’s match against Eibar as Juanfran also picked up his fifth booking of the season, and he will be joined on the sidelines by four more players for the same reason, De Marcos (Athletic), Cejudo (Betis), Hugo Mallo (Celta) and Albentosa (Málaga). PS The three match ban for Filipe Luis was reduced to one on appeal.

(* suspension pending disciplinary meeting decision)
