Sergio, Sergio, wherefore art thou Sergio? For the fourth time in his career Sergio Ramos didn’t make it to the end of a “clásico”, the Real Madrid defender once again sent off in the Nou Camp after picking up a second booking for a foul on Luis Suárez near the end of Saturday’s game! This time though it wasn’t all bad as Madrid held on to win 1-2. It was Ramos’s second red card in three games, and his 21st in a Real Madrid shirt, which is one for the record books!

There were four other players sent off this weekend though, including one for Rayo’s reserve goalkeeper Yoel for protesting from the bench early on in the Friday night match against Getafe. Luckily he wasn’t needed! Deportivo’s Arribas got his marching orders for two bookable offences at Celta, and he could be in line for a bigger ban as he accused the referee of robbing his team after he was sent off! Real Sociedad’s Markel Bergara went from hero to villain fairly quickly after he put his side ahead early on at Sevilla and then picked up two yellow cards, and Levante’s Feddal was given a second booking for protesting to the referee at the end of Monday evening’s 0-0 draw against Sporting. Luckily for him a member of his technical staff dragged him off the pitch before he could do any further damage!

A season high 73 yellows and five reds this weekend though, with no less than sixteen more players to be suspended after reaching the five yellow card threshold. That includes Hernán Pérez (Espanyol), Verza (Levante), Charles (Málaga) and Yuri (Real Sociedad), who were all given their tenth cautions of the season, and Luis Suárez (Barcelona), Luisinho (Deportivo), Mauro Dos Santos (Eibar), Rubén Duarte (Espanyol), Vergini (Getafe), Foulquier and Fran Rico (both Granada), Willian José (Las Palmas), Tito (Rayo), Mariano and Reyes (both Sevilla), and Lora (Sporting). Must have been something in those Easter Eggs! (05.04.16)

PS. Arribas was given a three match ban and Yoel two, but Rubén Duarte was let off his fifth yellow card on appeal, and will be available for selection at the weekend.
