The first leg of the cup quarter finals took place this week, with one red card for Alcorcón’s Bellvis near the end of the tie against Alavés. Elsewhere Pablo Hernández (Celta) and Escalante (Eibar) both picked up their third bookings of the tournament, and both will miss next week’s return legs.

It was not really Escalante’s week, and he will also be banned for one league game after he picked up his fifth yellow card in that competition too some half an hour into the match against Barcelona on Sunday. He was lucky not to be sent off though after he got away with a vicious tackle earlier on which left Busquets down and out. The Argentinian midfielder will be joined on the sidelines next weekend by five other players who also picked up their fifth cautions, Gabi (Atlético), Pereira (Granada), Fausto (Osasuna), Yuri (Real Sociedad) and Jaume Costa (Villarreal), as well as Aythami (Las Palmas), who was sent off for a second bookable offence late on in the Friday night fixture against Deportivo.
