A season high nine red cards in the last round of league games of the year, including three for members of the coaching staff, Setien and Sarabia from Betis, and Lanchas from Leganés. The highest profile red card was that of Real Madrid’s Dani Caravajal for stopping Paulinho’s header from entering the net with his hand in the latest “clásico”, and Betis defender Jordi Amat was also sent off for giving away a penalty against Athletic Bilbao, his second red card in four games. Elsewhere Campaña (Levante), Amrabat (Leganés), Zaza (valencia) and Trigueros (Villarreal) got their marching orders for second bookable offences, and another eight players will miss the opening league fixtures of the New Year after they picked up their fifth bookings of the season: Bardhi and Morales (both Levante), Pizarro (Sevilla), Unai Nuñez (Athletic Bilbao), Saúl Ñíguez (Atlético Madrid), Busquets (Barcelona), Montoya (Valencia) and Schär (Deportivo).
