No red cards for players in the midweek cup games, but there were two for coaches, in particular one for Simeone, who was given a three match ban, mainly for applauding referee Martínez Munuera (ironically?) after he sent him off. As Atlético are out of the cup though, Don Diego will have to serve out the suspension in the same competition next season. Barcelona assistant coach De la Fuente was also sent to the stands for protesting in the tie against Espanyol, and he will have to sit out both of the semi-finals. Meanwhile Alavés midfielder Tomás Pina picked up his third booking in the competition, and he too will be banned for the first cup tie next season.

There were two red cards at the weekend however, Celso Borges (Deportivo) and Chory Castro (Málaga) both sent for an early bath for second bookable offences. They will be joined on the sidelines next weekend by seven players who reached the five yellow card threshold, Rubén Duarte and Wakaso (both Alavés), Joaquín (Betis), Andone (Deportivo), Chema and Campaña (both Levante), and Mercado (Sevilla).
