The fifth round cup ties took place over the last two weeks, with Lo Celso (Betis) getting sent off in the second leg tie at Real Sociedad after picking up a second booking. Cabaco (Levante) and Murillo (ex Valencia, now Barcelona) will both miss their next cup tie after being shown their third yellow cards in the competition this season, although Cabaco will have to serve out the ban next season after Barça knocked his team out.

Other than Villarreal assistant coach Rostoll, Mikel Merino was the only one to see red in the week 19 round of games, the Real Sociedad midfielder getting his marching orders for a second bookable offence against Espanyol. He was joined on the sidelines the next weekend by Laguardia (Alavés), Carvalho (Betis), Arambarri and Foulquier (both Getafe), Stuani (Girona), Bustinza (Leganés), Roque (Sevilla) and Alcaráz and Nacho (both Valladolid), all of whom completed the five yellow card cycle.

No red cards in week 20 other than one for Valencia assistant coach Ismael Fernández, but five players will miss the week 21 games after reaching the five yellow card threshold, Pina (Alavés), Beñat (Athletic), Correa (Atlético), Gabriel Paulista (Valencia), and Funes Mori (Villarreal). (22.01.19)
